Armor upgrades are a kind of upgrade that can be used on armor and weapon items. They increase the effectiveness of the item that they're attached to. However, it's important to be aware that this upgrade will increase its weight, which will cause it to weigh more than before.

There are a few different kinds of armor upgrades that are that are available in the game and they all have distinct effects. Certain upgrades grant armor a greater amount of health points while others make it lighter and more powerful. The kind of armor upgrade an item will receive will be identified by the name of the upgrade as illustrated in the table below.

A few upgrades are magic or a mix of magic and technology, which is indicated by the "Magic" or "Hybrid" entry in the table below. The player should be aware that upgrading a piece to its max upgrade level will increase its defense value. However, it will also reduce its agility and its speed. For this reason, it is typically not recommended to upgrade most armor pieces above +9, since the defensive boost gained is generally not worth the weight and power costs of the upgrades required.

Jewels

Jewels are used in the sockets of armor and weapons, enhancing the power of a character and bringing about secondary effects. These reagents are available from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses all over the world, or through collecting Legendary Gear. You can also buy them from The Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Prism.

The quality of a gem can be improved upon by the Jeweler, with stages that range from Crude to Royal. Based on the level of the jewel it can provide different stat boost when slotted into gear, weapons and jewelry.

The Jeweler can create all kinds of gems, apart from the rare and legendary ones that you must be at an appropriate level to obtain. Jewels can be replaced with another jewel without destroying the original. You can only replace the jewel once in an item of equipment.

They can be obtained in the areas of starting as loot or personal story rewards from vendors, and through performing road interactions. They may also be crafted by jewelers, and then found or purchased at the Trading Post.

The first trinket that a player will unlock is the cloak.  item upgrade  provides a tiny, but useful bonus in speed of movement and evasion. Then, they can acquire rings, amulets, and necklaces in the same way to how a player can acquire weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment has one upgrade slot that accepts either a universal upgrade or a jewel upgrade. These trinkets grant additional buffs and abilities that are active even when the hero isn't engaged in combat. This allows the hero to be more effective when not active, and can also help make up for a lack of a strong team or any slots from the talent tree that would normally be filled with the hero's ideal statistics.

As a general rule trinket upgrades should be a priority BiS (Best in Slot) items that you aren't likely to replace in the near future. Then, you should consider any items with desirable statistics that are less significant than the iLevel for the item to be upgraded. This is particularly true if an item has multiple stats you'd like to upgrade as it's usually more beneficial to upgrade one important stat rather than two sub-optimal ones.

Jungle players usually upgrade their yellow trinkets to a red one prior to the beginning of the game. Top and mid players however they will select either a pink or green ward, depending on the matchup. These choices can affect the hero's ability to manage the map.

Apart from the things mentioned above, players can also find other items in the form of awards and trophies. They can be earned through completing certain milestones in the story, for instance finishing a chapter's main quest or destroying a boss.
